2010 July : Get Me One
anonymity asked:

I find it difficult to prepare for interviews. I’m generally good at bantering, but I find it confusing/difficult when I have to talk about my work experience.

How should I study my resume to prepare for such open-ended questions as “Why did you decide to get into such and such area” or “Tell me about your experiences with such and such”

Should I write a short exposition for each bullet point, and study that? I heard rote memorization is not the right way to study for an interview.

Thanks!

Hi, I am currently computer science major in college. I am looking for a job that does not require a computer science degree but in the field of IT. I would like to gain experience before I graduate. I’ve been looking for a job in IT field but most of the jobs requires computer science or Information technology degree. What would be good job for me? What certificate might be easy to get to get these jobs?

I am currently an Resident Assistant in my dorm that I live in. I am getting a Business degree specializing in Management. I am going to be taking 6 hours next fall, and was wondering what type of job I should get. I really need to make money to live, but I would really like a job that would prepare me for getting a “real” job. I live in a small town with not many large chains, but some small businesses in the area? What would be the recommendation or any advice?

I am looking for a weekend job at college to make some extra money. I am not available to work this job during the week.

I am at college during the Fall and Spring semesters. I will not be there during the summer or during the winter break (for about 3 weeks).

I would like to get one day off every 6-8 weeks.

I am willing to work any hours during the weekends.

Are there any companies/types of jobs that would be good for me under these conditions? Working for the university will not work for me because they only have jobs on the weekdays.

Thanks.

If you are unsure about how to prepare your resume, you may check out a resume writing sample. You can easily find a resume writing sample online or in many different books. It is not difficult to find a resume writing sample, particularly online. No matter what type of profession you are seeking, there is a resume writing sample that can assist you in creating your own resume.

Creating a resume is not difficult. There are many different resume software programs designed for just this purpose. With many of them, you simply need to fill in different answers regarding your employment history, skills, accomplishments, knowledge and education and they will actually provide you with several different samples of resumes from which you can choose. If you are looking for a professional position, you should choose a program that specializes in creating professional resumes. Professional resumes differ from ordinary resumes and usually are a bit longer than the average resume. If you are creating a professional resume, such as one for an attorney, you will want to take a look at a resume writing sample for a professional resume for an attorney. You will want to make sure that you include all of the information that you need in your resume and do not shortchange yourself when it comes to speaking of your accomplishments, knowledge and skills.

If you have never before prepared a resume, a resume writing sample is an ideal way to find out just exactly what you need to include in your resume. One thing you will definitely want to make sure that you include in your resume is your contact information, which should be prominent at the top of the page. Another important aspect of the resume is the objective, which is the position which you hope to gain by submitting the resume.

One of the most important mistakes people make when creating their resume is not putting down all of their knowledge and skills. By seeking a resume writing sample, you can see which types of skills and knowledge are often portrayed on resumes. In most cases, they are highlighted in bullet points. This makes it much easier for the potential employer to review your knowledge and skills. Experience is the one thing that employers look for when seeking an employee. It is even more important than education. You do not want to shortchange yourself by under rating your experience, so take a look at a resume writing sample that pertains to your type of skills so you can see what is important to include in your own resume.

When it comes to education, many people put down too little or too much. If you have a post degree, for example, you should be certain to put the name of the university and college where you earned your degree as well as the degree that you earned. You also need to put down the name of he university or college where you earned your undergraduate degree as well as the degree which you earned and any honors. Many people who have a post graduate degree to not feel that it is necessary to put down high school information on their resume. It is pretty much understood that if you earned an MBA you most likely graduated high school. Many people still put their grammar school on their resume. This is totally unnecessary. You do not need to go back to the beginning of your life with your resume, only to those points where your career began.

If you took some time off for a family or other reason, and prior to that time you had worked in an area where the skills you learned can be used for the job you are now applying, you can include this information at the end of your resume as additional information. This is also the place where you will want to put down if you speak another language that can also be beneficial for your new job.

By taking a look at a resume writing sample, you can actually learn quite a bit about building your own resume. You simply have to replace the skills, education and knowledge with your own. It is an easy way to create an effective resume.

I’m a second-year journalism student and I’d like to secure an internship for this summer, but the problem is that, besides classes I’ve had in school, I have no other experience to list on my resume. All of the internships I’ve looked at require a resume and I’d really like to impress them. Anyone have any ideas? Would experience having a clerical job (I worked for a lawyer in high school) look good?

Also, is it like any civilian job, where you go to work, and then go home, once your shift is over, or is it like being in the military?

Can someone that is in this profession give me some ideas of what it is like?

Where will I live once I get this job? Can I have my own place, or do they tell you where to live?

How good is the pay?
Is it fulltime or part time?

Thanks!
